If today I reap joy, and tomorrow, I reap sorrow,
I will still praise thee.
Should I be cast down and shoved into a pit,
And should my laughter be taken away from me,
I will eat of my bitterness, and I will exalt thee.
Shall I say that today thou hast blessed me, and tomorrow thou shalt curse me?
Shall I forget thy goodness, and say that thou hast lost thy love for me?
I shall not.
I will not be made restless in my tribulation;
But, in patience, shall I wait on thee to deliver me.
For thine hand shall be gracious and protect me,
And the same shall try me with temptation and sorrows.
I am convicted of the faith which I have found in thee,
For though I am continually afflicted with sorrows,
‘Tis yet a little while,
And they shall be no more.
